The Tech Day begins at 8:30am on Tuesday, May 9. The event is hosted in the Engineering Center Oakland University.

The event schedule is outlined below

Tentative Schedule – Tech Day 1 – Tuesday, May 9th

8:30 AM Attendee Registration – Continental Breakfast Served
9:00 AM Welcome and Opening Remarks from
Louay M. Chamra, Ph.D.,Dean

School of Engineering and Computer Science, Oakland University
9:10 AM ICS Company Overview / Latest Advancements in New Energy Emissions and Safety
Learn about the latest advancements in emissions, safety, autonomy and other trends. Benefit from a quick overview of Intrepid and its latest products and applications.
9:45 AM What’s New in Vehicle Spy v3.8.1
Vehicle Spy has several new features and a change in licensing structure. Learn about the new features such as Video Tracking, Ethernet and FlexRay features, TCP/IP, ARP and DoIP. Also learn about the migration to the new licensing structure.
10:30 AM Coffee Break
10:45 AM Network Topologies and Future Automotive Ethernet Functionality
Automotive Ethernet has changed the landscape and caused an exodus away from MOST. And this is only the beginning! Learn about the challenges accompanying new topologies and architectures as well as solutions for those challenges. Find out about new technologies such as 100/1000BASE-T1, AVB, SOME-IP, TSN (Precision Timing and Frame Preemption), and Power over Data Lines.
12:00 PM Lunch
1:00 PM Case Study/Training: Precisely Triggered Data Logger
Logging data remotely introduces several unique challenges. How do I know if I am getting the data I hoped for? Will the logger kill the battery? Can the logger collect all the data I need? Can I get that data to a server to benefit the entire organization? These questions and more will be answered.
2:00 PM Over the Air (OTA) and Remote Flashing Technology and Advances
OTA and remote reflashing have become more prevalent as the need to update more often increases. We must update while minimizing impact to the customer and the bottom line of the OEM. Take advantage of Intrepid’s advances in Over the Air (OTA) and Remote Flashing of ECUs, including a live demo of OTA.
2:30 PM Coffee Break
2:45 PM Intrepid’s Engineering Capabilities by Dave Robins, Founder of Intrepid
Intrepid has been in business for nearly 23 years supporting OEMs electronics technology architectures. Today, Intrepid is helping its customers tackle new technologies involved with autonomy, electrification, wireless and cybersecurity. All of these pursuits require testing tools built on the most advanced technology available. This talk will discuss how Intrepid is thinking big with the latest tech – and how it’s employing it in our newest products such as neoVI FIRE 2 and RAD-Galaxy.
3:15 PM cmProbe
In the world of powertrain calibration, there are few choices. Those suppliers know it and charge accordingly. All the while, the hardware hasn’t kept up with the new powertrain requirements. The software you use looks, feels and performs like it was written decades ago. Intrepid offers an open system with a fresh approach. The cmProbe is compatible with other calibration hardware and has the ability to work on the entire memory map at once with full data logging of all calibration data.
3:45 PM Data Analytics using Data Spy and the REST API
Many of us have already felt the pain of being buried under the “weight” of the data we have collected. DataSpy is a new data analysis program which can crunch through terabytes of data to find the events you have described. The software is available as a PC or server solution. Also, the server offers a RESTful API to integrate its capabilities into your application.
4:30 PM Developments in Vehicle Network Cybersecurity and Cryptography
Most manufactures have launched their own programs to protect the vehicle from intrusion and exploitation. Learn the techniques involved and how they will impact your testing and validation. We also present a solution to allow OEMs and Tier 1s to manage security keys, authenticate and decrypt/encrypt data, and keep your testing and validation moving forward.
5:00 PM Q/A
5:15 PM Bus to M1 Concourse
5:30 PM M1 Concourse Thrill Rides & After Party

Tentative Schedule – Tech Day 2 – Wednesday, May 10th

8:30 AM Attendee Registration – Continental Breakfast Served
9:00 AM Video Tracking and Capture with Vehicle Network Data
Recording video and synchronizing it with vehicle network data is a significant challenge. Add to that the need to trigger on a telltale lamp, or a needle position, or note an error message on a head unit / center stack, and there is no one tool available that can do this without some significant programming and system integration. That changes today with the new Video Tracking feature in Vehicle Spy. We provide an example of commanded vs. actual needle position on a cluster.
9:45 AM The neoVI FIRE 2 – Enhancements for CAN FD, Data Logging, plus Future Upgrades
The neoVI FIRE 2 is far more than a simple upgrade to the original neoVI FIRE. Many updates and architecture improvements were made to handle the challenges of today. We will provide an overview of the updates for CAN FD, Data Logging, and Cybersecurity. We will also present future upgrades to the neoVI FIRE 2’s features.
10:30 AM Coffee Break
10:45 AM Intrepid’s QA Process
A customer recently asked us a short question “How do we know it actually works?” It dawned on us that our customers are very interested in our internal processes and techniques to test and validate our hardware and software products. Our Global QA Manager, Aws Albayati, takes you on a behind-the-scenes tour of our QA efforts.
12:00 PM Lunch
1:00 PM Diagnostics over IP (DoIP) with neoVI FIRE 2
Many OEMs are planning on including Diagnostics over IP, also known as DoIP. Why are they doing it? What benefits will they get? How do we test and validate DoIP in our architecture? We will give a quick overview of the technology and how to work with it.
1:30 PM Gateways – How to “Replace” a CAN message, and How to Live With “Central” Gateways
This presentation covers two aspects: How to “replace” or “adjust” a CAN message or signal, which can be accomplished by using a neoVI with Function Blocks which can selectively gateway and adjust values with minimum latency. The second aspect is the “Central” or “Common” Gateway – These gateways are between the OBD port and all the accessible buses on a vehicle. It exists to protect the vehicle from external intrusion and third-party device failures, and also acts as the central connection between all buses. With the Gateway, we need new tools to perform our latency and functional tests from CAN to CAN, Ethernet to CAN, etc. We offer a quick overview of techniques and tools to help perform Gateway testing.
2:00 PM Make Your Own Display or Diag Tool with VividCAN
Intrepid is often approached to manufacture a custom display, a specialized diagnostic tool, or a reset tool for use at the factory. Our answer is to make your own… with the VividCAN! We’re happy to help you make your tool but we allow you to reprogram the tool and reuse it easily for a dramatically better ROI.
2:30 PM Coffee Break
2:45 PM An Hour with David Crockett – Tips on Application Development in Vehicle Spy
Many of you know David from emails or the phone. Few have seen him in person. This is your chance to receive a “Master Class” from David and ask questions if time allows.
3:45 PM Creating a Functional Tester or End of Line Tester Application in Hours!
Making your own application in Vehicle Spy may seem daunting at first. Get a jumpstart by learning how to create your own testing or validation application in Vehicle Spy. We will also review how to use the C-Code Interface and how to convert a CAPL project into Vehicle Spy with the CAPL Converter feature.
